Responsible AI in Organizations: Principles, Risks, and Opportunities

The use of Generative AI in organizations is gaining momentum. However, alongside the significant potential of using Artificial Intelligence to improve processes and decision-making, there is a heavy responsibility to ensure the responsible use of this technology.
Responsible AI is not just a technological matter. It is an approach to developing, implementing, and using Gen AI to promote ethical values, transparency, safety, fairness, and protection of user rights.
To implement responsible AI use in organizations, special importance should be given to the seven main areas:
Information Security
The use of generative models carries risks related to data exposure. Entities outside the organization may access sensitive information through requests or responses to models. The solution to this issue includes using private cloud, private lines, encryption, and access control, topics that fall under the responsibility of the cybersecurity department.
Data Privacy
Personal data, even if provided unintentionally, may be exposed when using AI, both to entities within the organization and outside it. Approaches such as anonymization, control of data sources, and user education can be adopted as solutions, alongside appointing an organizational privacy protection officer.
Information Reliability
Artificial Intelligence may produce incorrect, partial, distorted, or outdated answers. Without a dedicated organizational body responsible for overseeing information, users must exercise critical thinking, cross-verify information, use explainable AI, and explicitly request citations and information sources.
Copyright
Concerns about copyright infringement when creating content with AI require precise legal handling, fair use, and attribution of sources. It's important to note that most responses from systems like ChatGPT are innovative and do not constitute direct copies of existing sources.
Business Ethics
To prevent violations of standards, norms, and values, the organization in general, and the ethics, compliance, and corporate responsibility departments in particular, must define clear value norms and act accordingly. Proper use includes transparency in the organization, designing chatbots, and defining procedures for users.
Cultural and Social Sensitivity
Information received from AI must be adapted to gender, cultural, and organizational contexts. To prevent gender/cultural insensitivity or other types of discrimination, diversity/ethics departments should ensure data collection from diverse sources, human oversight, and continuous feedback on the information received.
Biases
AI models may reflect or amplify existing biases. To prevent biases, the organization should ensure human oversight of information, including internal and external monitoring and auditing. Paying attention to biases is especially important and should be the responsibility of all units in the organization.

Responsible Artificial Intelligence is not just a question of technology; it requires an appropriate systemic, organizational, and practical approach.
The path to proper use of AI involves clearly defining areas of responsibility, implementing policies tailored to the organization, ongoing supervision, and implementing effective training processes for employees. Only in this way can we realize the enormous potential of artificial intelligence while maintaining ethics, privacy, information reliability, and professional standards.
In a world where technology is developing faster than ever, our responsibility as users is to make smart and thoughtful use without taking unnecessary risks. As Professor Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, said, "Technology shapes the future. But it is people who shape technology."
