Battle of the Bots: Which AI Assistant Comes Out on Top

Updated: Jul 1

In recent years, there has been a significant leap in the world of Artificial Intelligence, and it is no longer perceived as a distant technological tool reserved only for engineers and developers. Nowadays, each of us can work with an AI assistant that understands us, helps us think, summarizes information for us, accompanies processes, and even integrates naturally into our daily work. Among the prominent tools today are four main players: Microsoft's Copilot, OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Anthropic's Claude. Each offers a unique method for engaging with knowledge, gaining insights, and making informed decisions.

Exactly one year ago we published the article "The AI Titans Battle: Comparison between ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini", and since then additional advanced features have been released in each of the above tools, including Deep Search, personalized assistants, Canvas, and more similar features. In this article, we will closely examine the new features and explore how each enhances the depth, convenience, and efficiency of working with knowledge.

Deep Search: Understanding Intent

One notable development is the ability to perform a smart and in-depth search, known as "Deep Search." Instead of settling for keyword identification, deep search feature enables the AI tool to understand the question's intent, decode its broader context, and review multiple sources to provide an accurate, relevant, and substantive answer. Following are a few examples:

ChatGPT’s professional version is capable of combining document reading, internet scanning, and summarizing complex insights, all in a natural and fluent language.

Copilot, on the other hand, works within the organizational system. The tool knows how to search within emails, documents, calendars, and files, and combine the information into contextual insights tailored to the organization.

Taking a different approach, Gemini combines Google's powerful search engine, which provides quick access to current information from the web, with Artificial Intelligence capabilities that understand the user's personal context. The tool enables combining private information, such as Gmail or Google Docs, with insights from open sources on the internet, to create a tailored, comprehensive, and relevant response.

Claude focuses on reading and analyzing long and complex documents, such as contracts, reports, or technical manuals. It excels in depth understanding, precise formulation, and thoughtful response. In advanced versions, it can perform analysis of online content, including links provided directly by the user. However, Claude does not include open internet searches, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, but rather allows limited access to manually curated links. Typically, this feature is only available to paying subscribers and is only accessible in certain regions. Therefore, its main strength lies in processing information that the user provides, rather than independently finding information on the internet.

Voice Search: Speak and You Shall Get an Answer

Another area where impressive progress is evident is voice search. Instead of typing, you simply speak to the AI tool, and in return it understands you, analyzes, and responds.

GPT-4o version of ChatGPT already enables genuine voice conversation management, similar to a real personal assistant, with quick responses in a natural tone.

Gemini's voice search, based on Google Assistant, offers an accurate and accessible voice user experience accessible in mobile phones.

In contrast, Copilot primarily supports voice activation through Teams or Cortana, but does not focus on full voice conversations. Similarly, Claude does not support speech at this stage, but it can be connected to external speech recognition tools.

Canvas: The Smart Workspace

Alongside conversation and search capabilities, one of the most significant developments to enter work environments is Canvas. This smart and dynamic workspace combines planning, writing, idea organization, and sharing capabilities with AI tools.

ChatGPT currently offers the most advanced Canvas capability. This is a visual work environment where you can develop an idea over time, share insights, collaboratively edit documents, and receive assistance from Artificial Intelligence within the drawing board.

Similarly, Gemini offers Canvas capabilities for paying customers, through which the tool can create content-rich documents, such as detailed explanations of work plans, code, stories, reports, and any other content that requires iterative editing or complex output. These documents appear on the right side of the screen and can be edited and shared.

As of today, Copilot does not include an independent Canvas tool, but it offers similar experiences in various tools, such as OneNote, Loop, and Whiteboard, where it integrates into existing organizational contexts.

Claude does not currently offer a built-in graphical Canvas environment, although it's possible to integrate Gemini with Google Docs documents and build simpler workflows around them.

Integration of AI Applications in Daily Messaging Applications

Another innovation is that these tools are now used in everyday platforms, not just traditional work systems. For example, it's possible to operate ChatGPT through third-party bots on WhatsApp or send messages to a dedicated phone number to conduct a conversation.

Gemini and Claude can be integrated through external tools and connected via Zapier or dedicated APIs. Copilot, while not directly supporting WhatsApp, works well in chat environments like Microsoft Teams.

AI Agents: Three Different Approaches

Alongside the tools themselves, several new models of smart AI agents are currently available:

  • ChatGPT offers GPTs: personally customized assistants that can be designed according to precise needs, including access to documents, response style, and fixed rules. They are particularly suitable for organizations, consultants, and content creators who need a consistent and accurate assistant.

  • Google offers Gems: smart assistants created within seconds based on simple verbal descriptions (e.g., "help me compose work emails"), making them particularly convenient for light and daily tasks.

  • Microsoft offers Copilot Agents: assistants that operate within the organizational systems, familiar with the user's documents, history, organizational culture, and operational contexts.

  • Claude does not currently offer AI agents.

Strengths and Specializations - Who Leads in What?

Each of above mentioned tools excels in a different area:

  • ChatGPT stands out in its ability to create personalized content, facilitate live conversations, and share content on Canvas.

  • Copilot leads in the organizational world: it's efficient, embedded in Microsoft applications, and knows how to streamline processes and identify needs from context.

  • Gemini excels in quick internet access, natural integration with Gmail and Google Docs, and an accessible user experience.

  • Claude is particularly strong in understanding long documents, precise formulations, and maintaining quality context throughout complex texts.

In Conclusion, Not "Who Will Win" but "What Suits You"

Beyond comparing the tools themselves, it's essential to recognize their contribution to a fundamental shift in the world of knowledge management. The new capabilities don't just simplify processes; they fundamentally change the way we work with knowledge. Instead of manually searching, storing, and summarizing information, smart assistants work with us, in real-time, using natural language, and perform a significant part of the processing, filtering, and analysis themselves. A process that was previously performed only by experts is now becoming accessible to every employee across every department and in every organization. This isn't just about a new technological tool, but about a professional partner who accompanies the employee in making choices, creating solutions, and taking informed decisions.

Therefore, the question is not "who will win" the battle between ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Claude, but rather which tool suits your specific needs. Are you creating content? Working in a complex organization? Dealing with technical information? Do you need a simple and accessible assistant on your mobile? Each of these tools provides a unique solution, and their combination creates a smart, relevant, and advanced infrastructure for knowledge management in the digital age.
