An expert knowledge retention process should focus on uncommon work processes, action strategy, decision-making, problem-solving, changes and development, milestones, and role switching. Proper execution of the retention process can lead to discovering the keys to success and failure and serve as a tool for lessons learned and insights.

Knowledge Retention: more than retirees

Retaining knowledge is essential in both business and personal aspects of life. While oral transmission of knowledge is common, writing is the best method for retaining and passing it on. In addition to business knowledge, retaining national, religious, and tribal knowledge has been integral to human societies since ancient times. Family knowledge can also be retained through modern scientific tools or primitive means, connecting us to our heritage and values. Combining various means of researching our history enriches and connects us to a group larger than ourselves, crucial in an age of alienation.
