WIIFM

Balance scale with target and "LOGO KPI" text on one side; heart, clock, money, smiley on the other. Theme of goals versus emotions.

WIIFM - an acronym for the phrase "What's In It For Me?" (or in the refined version, "So what's in it for me?").

Meaning of the concept

In any activity, it's essential to ensure that the user has a benefit and value from the activity. An activity where one party contributes while another party benefits does not meet the WIIFM test, since one party gains no benefit, and therefore, its chances of success are low.

In knowledge management activities where the defined benefit is organizational, it's always necessary to ensure that the WIIFM test is met at both the individual employee level and the departmental level. (Yes, the department manager also performs the WIIFM test, whether we want it or not.)

Everyone should be able to see the benefit they receive from the activity.

It's recommended to raise this question in every specification of a new knowledge management solution, as well as every time a new population is added to an existing activity.
