Mentoring as an opportunity for tacit knowledge value creation

As KMers, we often find ourselves either mentoring or being mentored. These moments are golden opportunities for knowledge sharing, transferring wisdom, and enhancing [organizational] knowledge retention and development.

Today's Knowledge Management Global Network session in the "Leveraging the Value Creation of Tacit Knowledge" course, focused on mentoring.

Esteemed Fisher Yu, a global authority on mentoring, led the session, shedding light on this topic. Mentoring is fundamentally about guiding a mentee to focus on first doing the right things and then on doing things right. Echoing Sven Rinke, PhD 's insights (https://lnkd.in/dMizexKj), mentoring transcends merely supplying answers. It's about fostering dialogue and navigating the nuances of decisions together.

How can this dynamic duo of mentor and mentee unlock the potential of leveraging tacit knowledge value?

It starts with cultivating trust and a relaxed rapport.

Through modeling, feedback, encouraging reflection, questioning, and storytelling, we engage in the art of surfacing the tacit knowledge or embedding it more deeply.

And when we prioritize DOING THE RIGHT THINGS from the outset, the sky's the limit. We can truly fly high; very High.
