Critical Thinking & Creative Thinking: A Winning Interplay

Today, on Knowledge Management Global Network’s Knowledge Creation & Innovation course, Alex Bennet (Alex & David Bennet) led a fascinating session on the two crucial C’s: Critical–Thinking & Creative–Thinking.

Why are they so crucial?

Their combination fuels knowledge–creation & innovation— two must-have capacities for the 21st century! Together, they:

  • Enhance problem–solving – A holistic approach leads to better solutions.

  • Drive innovation & adaptability – Stay ahead in a rapidly changing world.

  • Support balanced decision–making – Reduce bias & sharpen strategic planning.

  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration – Cross-pollinate ideas & foster open dialogue.

  • Strengthen resilience & risk–management – Identify opportunities & navigate crises.

How can we expand these capacities?

  • Critical Thinking: Reverse brainstorming, 5 WHYS, scenario analysis, critical thinking journaling, & more.

  • Creative Thinking: Random word association, role reversal, mind mapping, alternative uses challenge, & more.

  •  Want more ideas? Check out Alex's white papers on knowledge capcaities in ROM Global’s site: https://lnkd.in/dDvttF2U.

My key takeaways:

  1. Critical & creative thinking are deeply intertwined—strengthening one often enhances the other.

  2. AI is more involved than we think in these “human” capacities, leveraging the way we may analyze and create.

Mastering both critical & creative thinking—while embracing AI’s potential—can lead us to new understandings, better decisions, and ultimately, a much better world. It is our responsibility.
