Unlocking the Hidden Potential: Learning from Experts

From our university days, we all remember that those considered masters in their domain are not necessarily the best at explaining it to others.

Today, in the Knowledge Management Global Network's course "Leveraging the Value Creation of Tacit Knowledge," we had an insightful session on working with experts led by Dan Asher (phd) .

Here are my main points:

Learning from experts can be challenging because they are so knowledgeable that they often overlook steps that novices need to understand new concepts.

They might assume that novices know more than they do and use ProfessionalJargon that others may not understand.

Additionally, experts' intuitive ProblemSolving is often implicit and difficult to verbalize.

Despite these challenges, experts' valuable knowledge is essential, and we cannot afford to let it go untapped. So, what can be done?

  1. ActiveEngagement: Engage with experts much more intensely. Involve them in collaborative projects, brainstorming sessions, and events where they must interact more professionally with others rather than working alone.

  2. FacilitateKnowledgeTransfer: Capture their knowledge by asking them to prepare lectures on defined topics and participate in knowledge transfer activities.

  3. TapIntoTacitKnowledge: Work to unveil their implicit and tacit knowledge, making it accessible to all.

The effort is fruitful; soon, you will have more experts with outstanding expertise within your organization. Sharing knowledge always expands our total knowledge and capacities.
