ISO30401 future version– Updating the Principles (Section 0.3) - Part A

Between 2015 and 2018, we diligently worked on the first version of the ISO30401 KM standard. Towards the end of that journey, we shared it with the public, soliciting comments. However, much of the work took place behind closed doors, with each country primarily engaging a mirroring team - that was the norm.
Fast forward to 2023, and we find ourselves in a world that operates quite differently. Over the past few years, we've witnessed a significant shift towards openness in how we work, and it's not limited to us alone. Team members worldwide are now involving their KM communities at almost every step of the process. This global shift is reshaping the way we collaborate also in the ISO30401 team, leading to more learning from the community, as well as openness to the process itself.
Let's dive into our December 1st meeting.
The discussion had two main parts:
The first part revolved around the concepts of what should or should not be included in the principles, how to articulate them effectively, and their relationship with the rest of the requirements document.
The second part of the meeting focused on the first three principles.
Regarding these, we crafted the following (first draft):
1. Value: Direct your attention toward Knowledge Management activities that enhance organizational value. Knowledge inherently possesses the potential for value, and effective knowledge management serves as the key to unlocking and realizing this potential, ultimately leading to:
a) Enhanced efficiency. b) Value augmentation in ongoing processes. c) Creation of new value, whether skills, competency, performance, or new services and working methods.
2. Focus: Focus Knowledge Management efforts on Core knowledge, the knowledge that strategically impacts the business performance and needs.
We will reconvene at the beginning of January to delve into additional principles.
I promise to keep you all updated
