The Professional Hub: From Knowledge Assets to Professional Capabilities

In my previous post, I suggested that the traditional knowledge portal is evolving into something new: a rofessional Hub.

Today, I'd like to take the next step.
I believe the Professional Hub should no longer be organized around repositories, systems, or document collections. It should be organized around people and the work they need to accomplish.

Imagine opening the hub in your own professional role.
Alongside general productivity capabilities such as summarizing documents, preparing presentations, drafting communications, or analyzing information, you would immediately find the professional domains that matter to your work.

For an engineer, these might be design, testing, manufacturing, materials, or quality. For a chemist, laboratory methods, formulations, regulations, and analytical techniques. For a Knowledge Manager, Lessons Learned, Knowledge Retention, Communities of Practice, Service-Oriented KM, Taxonomies, AI for Knowledge Management, and more.

At first glance, this may sound familiar.
But this is where everything changes.

Until now, each professional domain mainly offered knowledge assets: documents, templates, procedures, best practices, and links to IT systems.
In the age of Generative AI, each professional domain can become an AI-powered professional capability.
Instead of simply providing knowledge, it actively helps professionals accomplish their work.
🔍 FIND
Access organizational knowledge together with trusted external knowledge through AI and RAGs. Ask questions, compare approaches, and understand existing knowledge instead of searching through files.

⚙️DO
Work with AI agents that help solve problems, support decisions, and perform professional tasks. A Knowledge Manager may capture tacit knowledge through an AI-guided interview. An engineer may investigate a root cause. A chemist may analyze deviations or compare formulations.

🌱 EXPLORE
Learn new concepts, methods, and practices through AI, combining external expertise with internal organizational knowledge and learning materials.

📈 IMPROVE
Use AI agents to identify patterns, reveal bottlenecks, generate new lessons learned, support innovation, and continuously strengthen professional performance.

💬 DISCUSS
Think with AI, collaborate with colleagues, and engage with professional communities whenever collective intelligence creates better outcomes.

Perhaps this is the next evolution of Knowledge Management.

We are no longer focused only on helping people access knowledge.
We are helping every professional become more capable while transforming organizational knowledge into an active organizational capability—one that continuously supports better decisions, stronger execution, and ongoing improvement.
