Everything Works. Until It Doesn’t. -Real cases from ROM Global’s experience-

In long-established shipyards, the machining department is always… a sensitive spot.

The lathes and milling machines are old.

They are no longer supported by suppliers.

And yet — they still deliver.

They are not replaced — not because they shouldn’t be,

but because they are expensive… and they work. The real issue, however, is not the machines.

It’s the knowledge.

Critical operations — fine polishing, shaft alignment, complex maintenance and repair — all depend on one person.

He is not leaving for another company.

 He is well past eighty.

But every morning, if he is even slightly late, the operations manager feels it immediately.

That was the starting point for a knowledge documentation effort we led about a year ago.

⭐️It followed a structured, proven approach:

  • Face-to-face sessions

  • Many hands-on demonstrations (because explaining wasn’t always enough)

  • A shared effort to understand not only what is done, but why this way and not another

⭐️The outcome?

A structured, visual guide — supported by short demonstration clips.

⭐️The result?

The expert still comes to work.

But now, he occasionally takes a day off.

And everything continues to run smoothly.

No urgency. No stress. No dependency panic.

A good ending? Yes — but not by chance.

This is what effective Knowledge Management does:

It allows organizations to keep what works —without being held hostage by how it works.

Stability is not when things keep running. It’s when they keep running without fear.
